"Therefore if any man be in Christ,
he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17)
"But as many as received him, to them
gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" (John 1:12)
WHAT REPENTANCE MEANS...
The word "repent" means a change of heart and mind that leads to a change in behavior or action. Matthew 21:28-31, "But what
think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. He answered
and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and
said, I go, Sir: and went not. Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. ...."
The first son refused at first, but he regretted what he had done; a regret that led him to doing his father's will.
Jesus wants us to change our hearts and actions to become His followers.
PUNISHMENT FOR SIN...
When Jesus returns for His bride, two groups are going to receive punishment:
•
Those that "do not know God" •Those
that have "obeyed not"
The punishment for sin is described as eternal destruction,
away from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His power. This punishment is very serious. "And
to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming
fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished
with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power..." (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9)
Jesus spoke these words: "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon whom
the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you,
Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."
